Notice of Open Enrollment - (10/9/2017)

The Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 486 Medical Fund will offer two HMO options this year.  AETNA Health Network HMO and Kaiser HMO will be the only two HMO's offered for the 2018 plan year.

The following medical benefit plans will be available as of January 1, 2018 to the participants of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 486 Medical Fund:

  (a) Self-Insured Plan

  (b) AETNA Health Network HMO

  (c) Kaiser HMO

The Self-Insured Plan is a straight Major Medical Plan and all benefits are subject to the $100.00 annual individual deductible and the 80%-20% coverage as outlined.

On Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 7:00 pm and Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 7:00 pm, representatives from AETNA Health Network HMO and Kaiser HMO will be available to explain how the plan works and to answer any questions.  The meetings will be held at the Rosedale Gardens, 8037 Philadelphia Road, Rosedale, Maryland 21237, not at the old Union Hall.

The "Open Enrollment" will be held during the months of October and November 2017 for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 486 Medical Fund.

Only during the "Open Enrollment" can you change from one plan to the other.  At "Open Enrollment", you can change from the Self-Insured Plan to the HMO, or you can change back from the HMO to the Self-Insured Plan.  If you do decide to make a change during "Open Enrollment", you must do it in writing on the required form or forms by November 30, 2017 and your new coverage will be effective January 1, 2018.

Those Retirees and/or their dependents on Medicare or age 65 or older and eligible for Medicare must be enrolled in the LaborFirst Medicare Supplement Plan; they cannot remain in the Self-Insured Plan for the HMO, once they are eligible for Medicare.  The other family members may remain in the Self-Insured Plan or the HMO's.
